Dispatch No. 003 | The Map Chart

Every shave is an experiment with one variable you cannot control in advance.

Your face.

The artisan soap world can be mapped by territory and scent character because soaps, however varied, share enough common structure to be organized. Your face does not work that way. It is its own territory entirely, and no external map can chart it for you. The blade that works for the shaver next to you in the forum thread may not work for your skin, your razor, your water, your prep. The soap that landed a glowing review may feel completely different two weeks later when your skin condition changes.

This is not a flaw in the system. It is the system. Every variable matters, and the only way to understand how they interact on your face is to track them over time.

The Map Chart was made for that.

It ships with every Expedition and Blade Flight. Expeditions include one Map Chart for every soap. Four soaps, four charts. Blade Flights include one Map Chart for each brand, so you can record their differences or similarities.

The front is the shave record. Pre-shave condition, razor, blade, brush. Skin feel going in: hydrated, neutral, tight. Razor aggression, blade behavior, brush fiber. Then the soap evaluation: scent strength, preference, skin feel after. The same fields for the aftershave if you use one. And on the right, the overall result: IRR, SVC, DFS, BBS. Irritation through Baby Butt Smooth, the four positions most shavers already use to describe how a shave went.

The back is the map position. Territory. Notes. Next Route.

That last field is the one that matters most for navigating the Scent Atlas. It is not asking what you thought of the soap. It is asking where it pointed. What territory or soap belongs on the next card, informed by what you just shaved with. The card belongs to you. What you log on it belongs to you. The record you build is yours alone, informed by your shave, your gear, your face.

Your Map. Terra Incognita. Chart It Well.
